Do you have onboard video, or a video card?

I would seriously try the graphics card first.   I had a radeon 8500 then got this 9800 and bf1942 ran so much better.  So if you have 2.4 ghz Pentium 4 (or comparable AMD), 1 gig ram, and a good video card, That will probably be ok to run at medium to high details.

I wouldn't  get a video card unless it's a radeon x800 series or Nvidia 6800 series.  The x800xl is the best value/performance right now, and now that its out, the 6800gt is getting cheaper.

I was thinking about building a new rig this coming christmas but I've almost decided to get a better graphics card and overclock my processor from 2.6 to 3.0 ghz.

Sweet I have the RAM, 2.4 P4, and I just bought a Radeon 9800 pro so I should be set, now I just hope the game is worth a damn.

Right click on "my computer", click hardware tab, go to device manager, then it should be under display adapters, it should say what type of card you are running.

You might find that BF2 will run quite choppy with that card tak ... even my 9700 pro is gonna struggle to keep a decent FPS/Graphic setting :(

Well after looking at the specs, it will work but you will have to probably take some of your settings down to low.  BF2 is going to be a big drain on that card, but it should run it.
