Installed a 30GB SSD. No moving parts is good for a device that I am lugging everywhere and the speed is not bad. Just have to be sure to adjust things for the SSD; performance of SSDs with Windows XP is a known issue; performance of SSDs with Linux is a simple fstab change.

Going from 160GB to 30GB wasn't too bad:

I crank it at high brightness, run WiFi and Bluetooth, and sometimes install/compile software - I have used to 7 hours before getting worried. I've not run it down 100%.

I immediately wiped Windows XP as soon as I got the machine so I have no idea. WinXP has issues with SSD devices so I may just boot off USB and use Windows 7. 

No, I did not hackintosh it - I have a Macbook Pro for that!

My roommate has one of the original ASUS eeePCs.  It came with some bastardized version of linux, which she had me immediately remove and put Windows XP on it.  It's got a 4GB SSD soldiered onto the mainboard, which is quite fast.  Boots XP in about 8-10 seconds.  When it was new the battery lasted upwards of 8-9 hours with wifi and full screen brightness.  She's had it for two years and the battery only lasts about 5 hours now.  Her own fault ...  Specs wise it's much weaker than what Mindflayer has.  IIRC 900mhz PIII Celeron (not upgradable), 512mb RAM (upgradable to 2GB), 4GB SSD (i think she has the 4GB model though she might have the 6GB model, it's not upgradable), 802.11b wifi, 7" screen (the 10" model didn't come out until recently).
