Call of Duty: Vietnam Confirmed
« on: Thu, 29 Apr 10, 17:36 GMT+5 »
According to a report from VentureBeat, the next Call of Duty title developed by Treyarch will be set in the Vietnam era. Persistent rumors over the past year suggested the game, set for release in 2010, has shifted away from the traditional World War II setting.

The report claims the game is titled Call of Duty: Vietnam; however than might not exactly be the final name as we have yet to see a game in the series with its location in the title.

"Tomorrow you will see a teaser for this year's Call of Duty game," said Thomas Tippl, chief operating officer of Activision Publishing, in the report. "Treyarch is working on it and taking the Call of Duty franchise to the next level."

Activision declined to comment on the report. The teaser trailer is set for debut on Friday at 12:40 AM EST on Spike TV.

I personally don't see a Vietnam game doing very well...

WW2 games have an element of nostalgia for people who like war history and such. There's a kind of "bad-assery" that goes along with partying like it's 1939.

Games set on the modern battlefield have more cool-factor. They're exciting because it's current and interesting.

Vietnam is, to me, at an awkward halfway point; not old enough to be nostalgically badass, but not new enough to be cool and exciting.

I hope they can prove me wrong! I like the CoD franchise for the most part. Both Modern Warfare games are excellent, and I got a lot of enjoyment out of CoD2 back in the day!

I'm gonna take a pretty good guess and say that it won't be done poorly. Just judging by the quality of their previous titles.
