Switzerland about to ban adult games?
« on: Fri, 19 Mar 10, 05:16 GMT+5 »
Parliament passed a resolution up to the Council proposing to ban all adult games.

I can't describe how angry I am. Being patronized like that by idiots who have no clue. So where does this end. If they can ban violent games, why not violent movies and tv. Why not boxing or other related violent sports. Violent Books/comics. To single out games is ridiculous. Why stop at violence. How about sex related media. Lets just ban everything that might be offensive. Why are they even thinking of banning this in the first place? Is it supposed to stop all violent crime from happening?

Tak, you are experiencing a phenomenon we have been dealing with in the US for some time. The idea that regulation of so-called causal agents is preferrable to addressing actual behavior.

If some kid (and believe me, the definition of "kid" is incredibly broad) plays a violent game and later goes out and beats granny down for her bingo money, it's not the kid's fault, far from it. It's obviously the game that caused him to act this way, let's ban all violent games so kids won't be violent. They never consider for a moment that the kid may just be unbalanced in the first place and probably just a mean little shit, and punish HIM... too logical.

Id be interested in what games they are thinking of? I mean how can they actually in practise police this?  Direct downloads will surely overcome it....

Games have always been free of violence.
We have always been at war with Eastasia.

If by that you mean something like an anonymizing service like TOR, then sure. If you then want to also use a credit card that isn't in the banned country, then sure. If you want to go to that extreme to pay a download service like Steam or Impulse or D2D to play, I think they would say have at it. I figure they would feel they fulfilled any obligation to the banning country quite well. I'd think pirating the banned game would be easier than that, though. And really, that can't be stopped.

The point I was trying to make with a single word reply is that legit download services would probably enforce, and have the ability to enforce, a ban for the vast majority of cases quite easily and quite effectively ....if they choose to.
