Preparing for the zombie apocalypse
« on: Sun, 02 May 10, 19:49 GMT+5 »
Vetril and Capuloclavo (aka Govt Cheese) took me shooting today. I don't recall every make and model, but do remember the Springfield XD .45 and the Jericho 9mm. I know there was a .40 of something and one other pistol.

I can tell you that I was not able to shoot soda bottles from 50 yards.

Soda bottles at 50yrds. is really outside the intended use of a modern defensive pistol. Not that a lot of people can't do it. There was a time when I could. Getting older now, and I'm not as steady as I once was.
I'm still a pretty good rifle shot. I just bought a RRA 16" varminter to go along with the Colt Elite AR I already had.
I still have the Springfield 1911, and bought a Colt Gold Cup 1911 about three months ago.

One of the local ranges hosts steel matches and I've been thinking of going to those... you have to be very fast and accurate. We just had an Appleseed match back in February. I'd like to go to one and see just how well I can shoot at 500yrds with the Elite... I'm sure it would be a humbling experience.

Springfield XD-45 (.45ACP). IWI Jericho 941 (9mm). Ruger P944 (.40S&W). Some shotguns (20ga and 12ga) for sporting clays. Good times.

I'm drooling over an AR-10 at the moment.

Cue gun control rants in 5 4....

Cue me having a good memory:

Amen.  I was shoot'n my friend's Glock 26 while we were camp'n this weekend.  It was fun.  We were shake'n up skunk'd beers and stacking them up.  Shoot'n them from about 50 yards.  We put about 250 rounds through it between 4 people shooting.  Would have shot more, but all he had left were hollow points.

;)

In any case, it was a lot of fun. Now, if this was BF:BC2 with some of the idiots running hacks until they got banned, Vetril or Cap would have been able to pop a squirrel's eye at 200 yards through a concrete bunker with the 9mm.

I came soooo close to buying an Armalite CQB this time instead of the RRA. Unfortunately, my wife can't handle the .308. Since this money was slated for "her" rifle, I couldn't very well come home with one she couldn't shoot. I have seriously considered trading the Elite for an AR-10 SPR clone, or M1-A. I just cringe at carrying around 11.5 lbs in the M1's case.

I have a Rem. 870 with 7rnd tube, but those 3" 00 Buck tend to kick a mite. 'Course, she wouldn't have to aim...

Bought my first handgun - Springfield XDM 9mm. Background check was slow today across the Commonwealth, so have to pick it up tomorrow.

Excellent choice 'Flayer! Springer's XD line is superb. If I wasn't such a 1911 nut, I would get one in .45

Actually, over the weekend I changed my mind! I now want the Springer M1A "Whitefeather"... it's only like, $2,400.00

It's my birthday in September.

Just so ya'll know.

Oh, and just throw in any old Leupold Mark 4 8.5-25X50 ER/T M1 optic. Nothin' fancy...
