Oh hell. You're ruined now 'Flayer. Next thing, you'll be sporting a shiny new 1911...

Like mine.

Colt Gold Cup Trophy.

Oh, I've looked. Local place had Kimber 1911s on sale, and a guy at the gun show had Wilson Combat for really good prices. A bit rich for my blood right now....

But I have looked.

Next up, though, is an RDS for my AR, and a laser&light (Viridian, perhaps) for my .45 ACP for home defense.

Mini 14 in 5.56/.223  - I wanted a rifle that shoots with a Garand-type action. I think I'm done now.

I think you've made good choices all around 'Flayer.

I'm trying to find a link to some info now that pertains to living through a real-life SHTF scenario. Economic collapse, not zombies, but very interesting and informative nonetheless. His experiences challenged some of my preconceptions - I had to re-evaluate a few things. Stay tuned.

This guy lived/is living through post-collapse Argentina. He's posted on several survival blogs and is quoted extensively.

I've read his stuff. Interesting - especially when you start to think of how it would be different in the USA.

Thinking like this is why I stock cheap, cheap Russian ammo I will never shoot. It will make good barter material.

I found it very interesting that he did not advocate purchasing gold except in the form of small jewlery. I never personally believed that buying bulk gold was a good way to go, and his observations confirmed that. Ammo - particularly common calibers (.22, 9mm, .45, .5.56/.223, and .308) would definately be a good investment. Medical supplies, fuel, even sewing needles would be good barter material.

Gold and jewelry are the barter items for civilization. When you're trying to survive, it's only there to show off your power.

Depends on the level of collapse. If it's zombpocalypse, then, yeah, wtf is gold good for? However, taking ferfal's example, bribes might become very important...
